Two-Day Intro to Fly Fishing
Our most popular offering, this two-day clinic, combines the fundamentals of fly fishing with practical experience. It is tailored for the person who wants an in-depth introduction to the sport. The first day of the class covers basic casting mechanics and the tackles and knots used in the sport. Time will be spent in our classroom and on the lake just outside. We'll take a break and have a picnic lunch on the lake. Then, with the help of video analysis, you will develop an efficient, effective, and repeatable cast. We will also begin a discussion on fly design and how it relates to what fish eat.
The second day will be spent primarily on the stream. You will be introduced to riparian ecology, fly selection(matching the hatch), reading water, moving water casts, presentation casts, line management, and aquatic entomology. Lunch will be served at the beautiful Allenbery Resort. Later in the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to practice the skills you have used on the water as your instructors coach you. You will leave this class with a foundation of skills and knowledge that will allow you to enjoy fly fishing as you continue learning on your own. If you are traveling a distance to attend the school, we will encourage you to add another day to your stay and book one of our guides for a fishing trip on Monday. Our lodging partner, the Allenberry Resort (allenberry.com), offers lodging packages for our schools and is the logical place to stay as the second day of school takes place on the Yellow Breeches Creek, which runs through the Allenberry property.
